What is the cost of buying a holiday home?
When thinking about buying a holiday home, there's more to consider than just the initial price tag. Besides the initial cost, you'll have some regular expenses like maintenance and insurance to budget for, and it is important to realise that the value of your holiday will fluctuate over time. However, there is also possible rental income to factor into your bigger budget picture, so keep that in mind too. All of our holiday homes are sold fully furnished and ready to enjoy but there might be a few little bits that you want to buy to make it suit your tastes. All these elements blend together to paint the full picture of what owning a UK holiday home costs and we are here to shine a little more light on the figures, so you can do all your sums and make sure it is affordable for you.
Our range of prices
Starting at just £79,995, you can have your own wooden holiday bungalow in the charming Devon countryside. Or, if you fancy a bit more luxury, we have top-tier lodges available in the South West from anywhere between £125,000 to £299,000. If Cornwall is your location of choice you will need to budget for a starting price of £125,000. Plus, for an extra touch of relaxation, we offer hot tub lodges in Cornwall starting at the same pocket friendly price of £140,000.
Annual costs
Planning your holiday home budget? Apart from the initial cost, there are some ongoing expenses to keep in mind. These include site fees that currently vary between £4,500 plus VAT and £5,800 Plus VAT and these are reviewed annually. Additionally, you'll have the yearly bills for utilities like electricity, water, and gas and also annual rates will need to be covered. To better understand these charges, check out our FAQs. Here's some good news - if you choose our Guaranteed Rental Income agreement, a lot of these expenses are taken care of for the first three years! This means steady rental income for you with zero expenses, plus you get to enjoy your holiday home too.
Paying for your holiday home
The quickest and easiest way to pay for your holiday home is a lump sum, cash payment, it’s the simplest way to finalise the sale and offers you a fast-forward button to your new, exciting lifestyle. If you need a little help to spread the costs you may be able to seek personal finance through your bank or financial provider. There are specialist finance companies for this type of purchase; and we would be happy to put you in touch with those that we are aware of.
Alternatively you might consider freeing up some equity from an existing purchase to help finance your new holiday lodge, or perhaps pension release might be an option for you. If you are exploring either of these possibilities, we do advise you to consult with a financial advisor so that you understand the full implications before taking any action.
Sharing a holiday home with your extended family could be a great way to make lasting memories while easing the financial outlay. Consider pooling resources with your nearest and dearest to invest in a holiday property that you can take turns enjoying, or let us help you find something with space for you to spend together. We have some excellent four bedroom holiday homes that could be the perfect fit.
