Secret Beaches in South Cornwall

Find your own sacred spot of sand

Choosing Charteroak® for your Cornwall holiday or as the spot for your treasured Cornwall holiday home might be a reflection of your love for peaceful, secluded locales. And we’re guessing that if you are a fan of tranquillity and out of the way locations, you might also be keen to find the nirvana of beach days. A serene stretch of sand, where you unroll your beach blanket, unwrap your picnic lunch and revel in a relaxing day, away from the bustling crowds.

The very best way to find an isolated spot in Cornwall is to be like an explorer. Pulling on your walking boots or making a splash in a kayak can be the perfect way to find a hidden slice of sandy bliss just for you. You'll discover charming coves and inlets that feel like your own personal haven, where you can envision the lives of the fishermen and smugglers who may have wandered these paths and seas before you. As you're exploring, remember to stay safe. Be mindful that Cornish cliffs and coastlines can be unstable and tides can shift quickly, so avoid taking unnecessary risks in your pursuit of the ultimate beachy paradise.,

If you would prefer to try out some more well-established spots, swing by our South Coast of Cornwall hotspots, just a skimming stone's throw from our Southern Halt and Stonerush Lakes parks. These quiet Cornish beaches are pawsome places, welcoming dogs all year round, so your furry friends will be welcome along for the ride too. Remember, our secret Cornwall beach picks might lack some amenities - you won’t find lifeguard patrols, you’ll need to be prepared with your own food and refreshments, there might be a bit of a stroll to reach them and you will need to be confident driving down our infamous Cornish roads. But that's what makes these secret shores so enchanting and some of Cornwall's very best beaches.

Lansallos Beach

A small National Trust car park opens up access to this charming, dog-friendly Cornish bay. Picture yourself strolling down a picturesque path, once trodden by smugglers, now interspersed with activity zones, courtesy of the National Trust, providing fun balance skills challenges. When you reach the secluded cove, a waterfall awaits, carrying stories of the old mill it once powered. Here, you can enjoy sheltered swimming, embark on a snorkelling adventure, or trek your way to Polperro or the Fowey ferry at Polruan.

Lantic Bay

Another National Trust gem, Lantic Bay is a wide arc of sand sloping steeply into the sea - a dream come true for those who love to dive into the water without delay or for boating enthusiasts. Imagine a sunny day at this Cornish beach, its white sands and crystal clear waters rivalling the beauty of Caribbean shores.

Portholland

A little further to venture, but well worth the journey, is Portholland. It's a little hidden away, but that's part of its charm. It's actually two unique beaches that merge into one spectacular sandy expanse at low tide. West Portholland is a bit cosier, complete with a convenient National Trust car park. On the other hand, East Portholland boasts ample parking. Don't miss the chance to explore the charming hamlet, home to just around 40 residences. It's a quaint, picturesque spot you'll love to discover.

Hemmick Beach

A small and sandy spot on the Roseland Peninsula. The narrow access road combined with a leisurely 10 minute walk across picturesque fields deters the beach going hordes but rewards those looking for a peaceful secret picnic spot. Expect to be charmed by the breathtaking view of cliffs gently descending into the mesmerising turquoise sea, which is generally safe for a quick dip. Your four legged friend will love freely chasing the waves and sniffing out treasures along the tideline.

Vault Beach

Fancy a cheeky dip in the sea sans swimwear? Vault beach, tucked away on the Eastern side of Dodman Point, is your go-to spot! It's a favourite hideaway for naturalists who enjoy a good skinny dip. But fret not, if you're a little bashful, the bare-all beachgoers usually stick to one end of the beach. The beach is a beautiful blend of shingle and sand, creating crystal-clear waters that are a treat to swim in. It's just a breezy 15-minute stroll from the nearest parking lot. Grab those beach towels!

Talland Bay

Pretty Talland Bay is midway between Looe and Polperro, within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. When the tide is low, it offers a world of rock pools for you to explore and discover the fascinating sea creatures, alongside safe, shallow areas for a refreshing swim. Despite its serene atmosphere, you'll find some charming cafes for when you fancy a restful beach day without the need for a packed picnic. Among these is the Smuggler's Rest Cafe, which serves evening meals and makes a wonderful spot for enjoying the sunset. If you're up for an adventure, kayak hire is also available to help you uncover more hidden gems along the coast.

If you are looking for Cornwall's best quiet beaches to finish off your latest book or are keen to uncover Cornwall's secret bays where you can watch crabs scuttle across empty sands, book a holiday or find a holiday home at Stonerush Lakes or Southern Halt. We are just moments away from coastal calm.
